If you have known me for any length of time, I have been overweight. I got up to 305lbs when I was working in San Diego. Poor diet (dinners out almost every night of the week), rich foods, poor workout habits. You name it, I was a walking heart attack waiting to happen. I will stand up for myself in one way. When I was fired from my job as Publisher of the San Diego Union Tribune, I did focus on losing weight and managed to get down to 270lbs and keep in that weight range for the next 5 years, sometimes getting down to 260lbs and never going over 274lbs. Well I have a great new diet. It is called get ALS and a couple of things happen. You have to eat slow if you are going to be able to eat at all. Second, I at least, never get hungry, at least not the way I used to. And I eat high fat foods, drink whole milk and add sugar to every coffee I drink. And the weight just keeps melting off. In the picture accompanying this post, I weight 225lbs. I last weighed that much when I was a pressman at the age of 25. So add that to the list of positives for ALS!. My list is up to four good things.
Financial Freedom. We you save enough for 25 years of retirement and only need to have enough for two years, you can afford anything.
No longer have to worry about short term health issues. Example. Doctors try to get me alarmed about blood pressure. (I have doctor induced high blood pressure due to past experiences) One, it is induced at the doctors office, when I check it home I am fine. Two, I can get a high blood pressure reading one minute, and the next minute it is low.
Time to say goodbye to everyone. For most of the time I have been ill, I was able to speak and I traveled all over the country saying goodbye to everyone I have met over the years. That is a nice thing to be able to do.
The new one, easy to lose weight when you eat slowly and never get hungry.
